Ultimate has developed differently accross the country, so there is a wide range of league structures in place at the High School/Middle School level.
Some leagues have a season of predefined matchups, whereas some developing leagues rely on teams to set up matches or find fields. Some leagues separate teams by competition level, some create divisions based on geography, and others even have age level classifications. From a format perspective, structures range from match play, tournament play, or a combination of both. Some leagues end the season with a giant playoff tournament, while others end with match play at HS stadiums under the lights.
How does your local HS League structure competition, and what do you like/dislike about that structure? What are the challenges that face HS/MS Leagues as the sport continues to grow at the Youth level?

Each Thursday usaultimate.org will feature a different topic of discussion on its message boards in order to engage USA Ultimate members and the Ultimate community around the world. The idea is to encourage discussion about some of the current events happening in the sport of Ultimate, and to collect opinions, ideas and feedback from our members and athletes across the globe. Interesting, exciting, controversial or informative, a featured topic will be chosen each week and representatives from USA Ultimate will provide their input in an effort to enhance its communications with the Ultimate world. Please send topics you’d like to see discussed to matthew@hq.usaultimate.org
