Obviously I'm biased but seeing the UNCW Seamen make it back to Nationals for the first time since 2002 was terrific. Not sure that there are that many other teams that have seen the highs (National Championship, Nationals Semifinalist, etc) and the lows (failing to qualify for Regionals or the second day of Sectionals) that the Seamen have over the past 20 years.

    Favorite Moments

Two Favorite moments for me this year,

    1. Josh Zipperstein coming over to do our performance testing. I ventured to the Club Championships with hopes of collecting data from the studs of the sport. I really
wanted to test the likes of Zip, Brodie, Gibsons and the Sockeye monsters, BUT, they all were to busy trying to win Championships. Anyway, after Chain lost in Quarters
Byron convinced me to go over to the sobbing Chain bench and give my pitch about the importance of collecting data to increase athleticism and competition in our sport, blah blah.. So, I did it. Handed out a few brochures and yearly plans gave my pitch, they all listened until John Hammond goes, "dude, we just lost". "I know, see ya, come over if you can"and I took off running.

About an hour later, Zip comes walking over. Stooooookeeedddd. Got a few 40's a vertical and a zig zag agility (which he completely destroyed). Made my day.

Oh, and Chelsea Putnam stopped in to test too. She is fun. And, Ken Porters record breaking 40 Yard Dash was also a blast. And, Katie Johnson's 28 " vertical at Madison was pretty epic.

    2. Coaching UNI Ammo's Clean Complex to perfection. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-rIfyuEE0c
(this isn't the occasion, but an example)

Theses guys have been showing up, as a team to our lifting sessions all semester. This kind of lifting is technical. After about 6 weeks of coaching we had a
mega-jam session in the weight room. Everyone showed up, everyone had been working hard and had adapted to the stimulus, they were ready to see what they were made off. We throw an absurd amount of weight on and ran through this complex for 6's. These kids NAILED every movement, butter. We continued on to, what I call, a Metabolic Leg Series (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXl2uSoSkdE) in which they also just destroyed.

The energy in the room that day was fire and it radiated with me through out the day.
Super proud of those boys. Hopefully it will pay off as they achieve their goal of top 10 in the Central Region this year.

    3. Being a part of Robert Dennis and Jon Beavers first club tournament with an Iowa pick up team Dragon Army. These two freshman at UNI did amazing and are on their way to rock star status.

What were Zip's times in the 40 and zig-zag?

I remember playing Porter when he was a freshman or first year player and he didn't seem that fast, guess knowing where to go helps more then you might think.

    Josh Ziperstein 27 Chain Cutter 1.7 4.9 27.5 8.40*

That goes, 10 split, 40 yard, vertical, agility.

4.9 is the 6th fastest we've had. Figure, its electronic timing, therefore at
a combine with a stopwatch it would be more like a 4.7.

Porter is freak fast. And the kid has never lifted. I can't imagine what he
is going to do next season since he has finally bought into the idea that he
    needs to train with resistance.

Do you have a website somewhere with the all the info you gathered on players? What the different tests you had them do are? etc.? How are you using the results?

    Sorry to hickjack the thread.

40 yard sprint with timers to measure the 10 split
    Vertical Jump
    Zig Zag Agility
    300 Shuttle

We havent collected enough data to even be close to establishing norms. That is the outcome goal, norms
for our sport just like any other sport. The other
thing that drives me is just to get athletes realizing that they are athletes and if they train, they will get
better, there is defiantly a lack of proper training (especially resistance training) in our sport. So being at
the championships has been an awesome opportunity to chat with players, share resources and collect
    some data.

Also, more people need to test at these events. I think some people get the wrong idea about what I am doing.
They need to realize by running through 5 minutes of testing, it will help our sport tremendously.

Life has been a whirlwind for me trying to finish my masters degree, so I haven't had as much time to jam on this stuff
as I would like, but, sometime in the next few months I will sit down Will and Tom and give them a little presentation
about where I think we should go with this stuff. I've got some really fun ideas.

As far as publishing, just starting a "athletes profile" on Skyd Magazines website. Will use their testing scores and interview
the athletes about what they have done, training wise, to become such studs. Up next week are Eric Johnson, Luther
and Katie Johnson, Iowa (Katie is the record holder in the womens vertical jump)

e-mail me anytime with thoughts and questions. morrillperformance@gmail.com
