Last May I was a spectator at the college nationals tournament. Especially in the open call-fest, I remember being curious as to what the calls were. I know there was a guy on the loudspeaker saying what the calls were, but most of the time those updates were delayed.
I'm aware that the observers use hand-signals, but I remember only seeing the signals if the call was correct. For instance, if a foul was called and sent to the observer and he deemed it was a foul, he would show the hand signal for foul. But the entire time the two players and the observer are discussing, the crowd is unaware of the call that is being discussed.
Just a suggestion, but maybe giving observers, or just the head observer, a microphone just like in football. That way, the crowd can know what the players are discussing and thus make the game more watch-able.
