How does everyone feel about the membership renewal process?

http://www.usaultimate.org/membership/default.aspx
"Membership begins once your information and fees have been received and processed by USA Ultimate. The annual membership period is the calendar year (January 1–December 31). We begin accepting renewals on December 1 for the following membership cycle. We encourage you to sign up at the beginning of that cycle. All memberships will expire on December 31 of the current cycle regardless of when you sign up. USA Ultimate membership is not refundable. Please review the membership information and form carefully."

I would like to get memberships for my new players in early November this year after tryouts so they can start participating in these message boards and using the team group I created.

It would be great if the membership just lasts a year after you get it, with an email reminder a month before it expires. I realize this may be annoying for USAU, but I think the message boards could see a lot more great discussion and questions from new players if memberships could start anytime and last for a whole year, not just expire at the end of the year. Share your ideas or concerns.

Not a bad idea. Really, any time after the club series has started you should be able to renew/join for the next year and get the remaining months of the current year for free. It's probably not a large chunk of people to begin with anyway since it would only affect new members.

Edit: To clarify, I'm voting for a third option of just taking the current system of Jan1-Dec31 and extending the period forward in which new members can sign up for the next year.

I was thinking about that option too. I'll add it to the poll.

Does that poll option portray your voting choice correctly?

Since we're talking Registering...does anyone else have a problem with College eligibility clocks starting in the fall?

For ex:
If a student graduates high school in the spring of 2010, and attends a Club Series event in the Fall of 2010 they will only be able to participate in 4 College Series events(the first being Spring of 2011), right?

It was my impression that their college eligibility clocks start when they participate in the USAU College Season and Series for the first time? That's what would make sense to me. Not sure.

That is not the case. If your initial post-HS USA Ultimate event participation is in the fall of 2010, the spring of 2011 will be your first year of participation eligibility. The cut-off point within a year is June 1st.
