View Full Version : Top Down View of Real Game

I can't describe how much I'm craving a true overhead view (as in blimp or indoor football stadium style) of a high-level ultimate game.

I try to describe to my team the motion and draw on whiteboards, but nothing demonstrates like seeing a video, and while some venues have had pretty good angles (2009 Worlds springs to mind) I've never seen anything top down enough to really show how flow and movement is generated.

Anybody ever see anything along these lines? I've had many teams struggle with horizontal flow and continuation over the years, and just one really good video showing a full field and motion would go a long way to helping to demonstrate it in the real world.

I totally agree with you on that. Here are some of my favorite videos with a far, high sideline angle.

Parts 2 and 3 of each one of those should appear on their pages.

I posted about the WUCC finals footage captured from a remote control helicopter elsewhere on this message board (http://boards.usaultimate.org/showthread.php?129-Aerial-video-footage-of-the-open-WUCC-finals). It's a pretty short film but shows just how sweet videos of ultimate are when filmed from above. Really great to watch the cuts develop and see the flow of the game. I love how the disc just seems to hover above the grass too.

Not the greatest angle for zooming in on big plays (like Rob does with lots of his UltiVillage footage and highlights).

Thats the one I was talking about, definitely an interesting view of the game.
